User Profile

Profiles of well known Atari Users

This month, we were supposed to have a profile of Colin Fisher-McAllum but due to illness and the AtariPhile deadline he was unable to do it. Thankfully, Roy Goring of Wessex Atari Group stepped in to help.

User groups are around to give users the chance to meet people with the same computer and same interests and in a community like that of the Atari they are extremely important. WAG covers southern England and offers support to users in that area.

1. Describe your Atari setup

I've just bought a 4Mb Falcon after running on a STE since 1988. The system has 170Mb IDE internal HD, USR 14400 modem, Canon BJ10ex bubble jet printer, SVGA monitor.

I run Outside to give me 11Mb virtual memory, Geneva & Neodesk 4 multitasking system, Videl Inside to give me 832x480, I'm talking to the writers at the moment to try to get 832x624.

2. What is your Atari's main use?

Everyone in our house uses it, me for business type use and I play games occasionally, my wife uses it for her Guide stuff, my children for homework, messaging and games.

3. How long have you been an Atari user?

Since 1983. I first had an original 800 with tape deck. Moved up through the eight bits, bought a STE in 1988, and a Falcon in 1996.

4. What is your favourite Atari program?

I don't have a favourite. I use the programs that do the jobs I want them to.

5. Any information about yourself ie your occupation etc.

I am 42 years old, a Fireman, I have been married for 19 years to my wife Janet. I have two daughters Lynn 14 and Dee 12.
