I am currently driving a bog standard atari mono sm124 at 1024x600 NON INTERLACED with spectre and it is pin sharp with no flicker, for those flicker addicts Interlaced modes of 1024x960 and 1024x800 are available, it also drives a variety of other monitors such as 21 inch and 19 inch, even portrait, however the latter causes a slight problem with spectre as it seems to assume that the screen is as wide as the video ram and 800x1024 is used for the portrait mode (the video ram is 1024x1024). I think however that dave S's mod to make spectre work with Overscan should cure this, a 800x600 mode is also available on the sm124 though this suffers from the same problem. The board costs 250 pound sterling plus tax and works with megas, however an STE fitting kit is also available. The mouse does not work. once the program is fired up the pointer is stuck on the screen. you can move the mouse using the cursor control keys from the keyboard. Doing this all utilities seem fine but are laborious to use since this method of mouse control is very slow. I just upgraded from an Old STM, 2.5M, twin 1M drives, to a STe 4Mb. Interestingly it came with TOS1.6; I was expecting a TOS1.62 machine. So I rang the supplier, BEST PRICES (UK), and a really great guy there called Bob sorted me out; even giving me the number for Atari UK. I sent the machine back on Tuesday (by courier), and I got it back on Thursday (at no further expense after sending); is that service or what ? It also turns out I now have a TOS1.62 machine. I was told by Bob that Atari UK are shipping a mixture of 1.6 and 1.62 machines to suppliers; But if a customer specifically requested a 1.62 machine from BEST PRICES company they would get it; I'd assumed by default, and there lay my mistake. I Don't work them, I'm a satisfied customer. Hey doesn't Lars-Erik's DOUBLE screen emulator work great !!! I've sent my registration fee already. I haven't had time to tinker yet, I'm at work typing this message, but the most obvious fix is no MEDIUM/LOW rez save bug; yippe another auto program I can remove from the Hard Disk autofolder. If I notice any new features/bugs I'll try to post them, but since I don't do much low level stuff with my Atari - sorry I'm a plain vanilla user - I may not notice any small yet significant changes in the OS; I wonder if they fixed the 40 Folder, Pool compaction bug ? One can hope, surely ???? OK I take it back. Thanks for reading. Well, it definitely is TOS1.62; Interestingly the ROM Date is 1-1-90! STEFIX has finally been removed from my AUTO folder. In addition POOLFIX3 no longer runs, claiming that installation is no longer required in this version of TOS; is this the truth or simply a failure in POOLFIX3 to recognise 1.62 ? I hope its true. Also Karsten I's VDIFIX doesn't run either, with a patch to TOS2.xx & 3.xx unneccessary message; anyone know if this is true ? The big loss in my AUTO folder that is currently driving me mad is PINHEAD 1.8. It just won't run, claiming incompatible TOS. Anyone know a mail address for Codehead, were I can register and get a new version, please. The STe's are much faster at clearing memory than the old STs but compared to PINHEAD, they pale into comparison. I did quick tests on Timeworks DTP, Easy Draw II and there appears to be no problems. Anyway, many thanks in advance if you can help. Yan Nb:- Dear Lars, their's an interesting bug in your MAPMEM program, it can't seem to print the number TOS 1.62 number correctly, printing a AE type character instead of 62.
