From what I have heard about the program, it does what it does without slowing the machine down at at all. Is there a demo of this prgram available? I heard that it costs $40, so I don't really want to send money without seeing just how good it is. Even a scaled down demo would be great. Also, while on the subject, does anyone know if there are any other programs that do the same thing? Or even a program that crunches the files before executing them, and offers only light compression. PFX Pack is a good program, but the compression is too good. Too good?!? Well, the better the compression is, the slower it is to uncompress when you run it. I only want light compression since I don't want to lose the speed of my Hard Drive. I have tried several PD programs, SEEK6MS.TOS seems to work with older TOS only ( I am using TOS 1.4), Claud Brod's SEEK33.PRG can only set seek rate from 1 to 3 and PCF554.PRG which means for connecting the Atari 5-14" drive to the ST can only set the step rate of the drive B:. I am now can get by by using CLI program to set step rate and format 18 Sectors but it is rather inconvenience to run CLI every time that I switch on computer just to set step rate then exit to GEM desktop. I would prefer to autoboot the Atari Corp's PCF554.PRG if I can change some addresses to make it set steprate of drive A: instead of B: or set both A: & B: to 6ms. To give a digest of what was lost... Word Up looks for the string "PATH=" in system ram. When I set up an environment variable in NeoDesk 3.02, Word Up (last version) found that instead and thought its files were on ".;". To work around, set the first path for the environment variable to be Word Up's home directory. When debugging a NeoDesk problem, do not just disable all auto programs and desk accessories, but also all the NeoDesk .inf, .not, and .mac files. You may also have to run NeoDesk from the desktop and you may have to turn off the fast-load bit on the program under test (if you have Tos >= 1.4). BTW, what is the correct way to find a program's directory? This was discussed on c.s.a.st.tech a while ago, I forgot the outcome. Word Up now has this bug, a bug that leaves the mouse hidden if you type control E, has ugly fonts, and is really ***SLOW***. Only the PC ported dictionary and thesaurus are really good.
