Some users reported that the Atari Twist help them. This is similar to the three inch drop, because you hold it about that high to do the twist, but it seems much more gentle to me. Grip the case firmly at each end. Twist the right hand toward you and the Left hand away from you, flexing the case. Then reverse the directions. If the chips have not popped out, this flexing action might re-establish contact. -- Prof Leroy J. I have written one that loads and plays simultaneously. I'm not sure what the transfer rate is from floppy, but from harddisk it works a charm. The Rhythm Nation sound files are great in succession. I guess you'd only have to transfer 10K per second or so - floppies are that fast aren't they? Also, it gives you the option of not calling them .snd files, but renaming them to .<100HZ> files where eg., bell.80 would play at 8KHz. Of course, you can ask it to play them at any speed with command-line options. I will uploaded it to atari.archive as soon as the Holy Trinity is fullfilled (I'm at home, No-one is on the phone, and I remember). Before I do, get in quick and tell me anything else that should be added, considering it is NOT a GEM application (is there a need for one?) I have a digitizer for my IBM which produces a file of size [4000 Bytes for each second of digitized sound]. I want to use these files with my ST. Each byte corresponds to one of 256 different voltage levels to be applied to an analog speaker. A large difference between two consecutive bytes produces a loud 'click' and a small difference produces a small click. I tried playing a constant tone over the Atari's speaker and setting the volume (0..15) 4000 times per second, but this has 1/16th the resolution of my digitized sample and the replay quality is VERY poor. I know that impressive digital replay is possible on the ST, any ideas how? There are a *lot* of changes from patchlevel 8; most are cosmetic (removing various compiler warnings) but there are some significant bug fixes as well. Most notable of the fixed bugs was one in open(); the old version was passing the "mode" argument unchanged to Fopen. This was a *very* bad thing to do; in fact, only the lower 2 bits (O_RDWR, etc.) should be passed. It doesn't matter (much) in the current version of MiNT, but it could cause very severe problems in future versions of MiNT. I would strongly suggest that you recompile all your MiNT programs with the newer library (or at least with a fixed open()) so that the transition to MiNT 0.9 won't be quite as painful :-(. Other changes include drastic changes to the include files to handle prototypes more easily, and to improve portability to other compilers. I've also incorporated many of the changes to the "standard" gcc library that Jwahar Bammi has been maintaining (thanks, bammi!). -- Eric R.
