If I have a Spectre GCR or any IBM emulators, can I use Mac and IBM fax softwares to send fax? To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu Yes. There exists an autoboot program named SIMMFIX. The ONLY thing it does is check if the computer THINKS it has 4 MB and the MMU says it has 2.5MB. Then, it sets the MEMTOP correctly, and reboots. ~~~~~~~ - several descriptions are around of what happens then. Some get bombs, some don't, my computer didn't do anything, that is, the memtop wasn't corrected at all. I rewrote the program: it jumped to the hd_init vector (or something sounding alike) in stead of taking the real reset vector, which had the effect that my machine (with no Hard Disk) did not reset. I changed this, and it worked fine. If I'm talking nonsense, please state so on the news. If someone's interested, do the same, by mail. At this moment, my STE is at the manufacturer for the famous HD-problem (problem #2 :-/ ) for some months already. I have not had the opportunity to test anything I said here. -- ________________________________________________________ Annius Groenink|undergraduate student Laan van Borgele 24|maths/computer science at the 7415 DJ Deventer|University of Utrecht, Holland. ------------------------------ Date: 10 Jun 91 02:23:58 GMT From: noao!asuvax!ukma!widener!iggy.GW.Vitalink.COM!pacbell.com!mips!zaphod.mps.ohio- state.edu!caen!kuhub.cc.ukans.edu!whitten@arizona.edu Subject: Motorola 68hc11 cross assembler To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu I know this is probably a shot in the dark, but I'm looking for a 68hc11 cross assembler that someone has ported to the ST. If you haven't got the PC format program on your system, >I can send you the appropriate data format of the first blocks of PC >diskettes. The Mtools package is not just a driver for the floppy drive. It is a collection of MS-DOS style utilities which allow you to read, write, make directoried, cd, change attributes, etc. It is much easier to use than the canned stuff Sun provides. Also, the Sun stuff is incredibly picky about formatting floppies. If it gets just one error, it totally aborts. I would advise formatting on a PC or your ST, and if you can compile Mtools use it. It is really nice. -- ---------------------------------+------------------------------------- Mickey R. Boyd | "Kirk to Enterprise. All clear FSU Computer Science | down here. Most SPARCstations use 4.1.1, which is all right. (2) Otherwise you need to add a floppy drive driver ('mtool' or something to be 'ftp'ed). (3) As the physical formatting shouldn't be different (512 bytes/sector), DOS/TOS, SunOs, Minix diskettes are only differently initialised. (4) Easiest way is to copy the first 72 sectors (72 x 512 bytes, that is) from a freshly formatted DOS/TOS diskette to a file and then copy the file to any diskette. This is equal to initialising the diskette in DOS/TOS format. (72x512 bytes applies to 1.44 MB diskettes). (5) A minor problem remains that the Volume Serial Number (TOS's poor equivalent is three bytes, but the locations are different) and other info specific to the diskette will be identical to the original. You can re-write those if you like. It can be obtained by ftp from cerl.cecer.army.mil and works quite well. If you are running SunOS version 4.1, then you have another option. SunOS now supports MS-DOS file systems. The file system type is called "pcfs", and it is used with the normal Unix commands, e.g., "mount" to mount it, "ls" to list the directory, etc. Since mount normally requires root privileges, you might need your system administrator to provide a trivial setuid root program to call mount with the appropriate arguments. Also, an appropriate entry must be made in /etc/fstab. -- ================================================== | Michael Fischer | ================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jun 91 23:43:18 WET DST From: "Ian McCall (Scorpion)" Subject: System 7 on Spectre To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu I must admit to being utterly confused.
