If it's not available for ftp an address where a physical letter will reach the relevant persons would do just as well... Keywords: Hello everybody, I just would like to answer to Thomas about Gfa Raytrace Package. I don`t know all the tools in this Pack but if you are a beginner I don`t think that Gfa Raytrace could bring you a lot of very interesting things. Let me explain why: At first Gfa Raytrace is really specific. You know that this software uses the Raytrace technic to show pictures. Of course the result is very nice but the calculation is very slow (1-5 Hrs sometimes...or sometimes all the night). Moreover Gfa Raytrace uses a lot of colors and it`s difficult to use this process in GFA. But if you want to use the Gfa Raytrace pictures try to find a converter from GFA Raytrace to Spectrum (It`s exist!) and then you can use a Spectrum 512 routine to show your pictures. If you can`t find a routine try to find a executable binary file which load the pictures. (And if you want make a DEMO for instance you can use the instruction EXEC or PEXEC 0 to exec the binary file... look in your Gfa basic manual). Well, what I can say now? I could maybe introduce myself... I`m called Samuel Grosdemange and it`s the first time I use USENET NEWS .More other I`m French and I`m 19 (So, I beg your pardon for the mistakes... thanks in advance). I begin to code in Assembler 68000 some DEMOS and we have made a crew in France (in Epinal near Nancy near Strasbourg). The name of our crew is Passion and if you want to contact us (It`s a call to all coders and ST users all other the world) write to the following adress: Samuel Grosdemange 3,Rue des Ducs de Chatel 88000 PALLEGNEY FRANCE Now , Thomas I hope you could receive a few letters explaining you what Gfa Raytrace offer as a programming tool. Don't all versions of Dumas' uud strip extraneous headers and trailers from uuencoded files? The problem arises with all the nonstandard decoders/encoders that exist. I use GNUS for reading, and I call uud directly from the Article buffer in the case that the encoding is complete. Otherwise, if the article is recognized as a `uud' part, then the proper named part file is automatically saved. Cheers, -- Ralph P. (3) Call a BBS, or download from atari.archives, a Virus Killer. Use the program on all of your disks. When you have cleaned all of your disks using a Virus Killer, then you will not need to use the boot disk from step to. You can go back to doing things the way you did before the Virus. Also, if you find out how you got the Virus, please let us know. Note: The Atari Virus Killer 4.00GB detects Link Virus programs, which are Virus' that get executed when you run certain files you download. "STart has suspended publication pending a sale of the magazine," said Editor in Chief Tom Byron. A sale is said to be in the works with unidentified parties, and no timetable is being discussed publicly. Byron also said that the next issue, the June/July edition, is complete and was waiting for printing when he got the news today that the suspension was in effect. The resolution of the fates of subscribers and the many writers to whom STart has owed moneys dating back to mid 1990 is not known or predictable at this point. If STart is sold, it may be that those owed will be paid from the revenues, or the new owner may assume the liabilities of the company. A third possibility is that there would be a liquidation and sale of assets held by STart itself, which may be negligible. Z*Net will continue to follow this story which is of great concern to the entire Atari community. STart is the last commercial "slick" magazine for the Atari in the U.S.A. It will leave behind only Atari Explorer, Atari's owned house magazine, and newspaper-type publications like AtariUser and ST INFORMER. Look for followup on the STart story in Z*NET #91-21, this weekend on telecommunication services and bulletin boards world-wide. Before you "start work" please check to see if TOS's and MiNT's own filesystem isn't what you need. They *are* MSDOS compatible. You can take TOS disks and use them on PC's. Well, that's not quite true. They have to be formatted by a program which does an MS-DOS compatible format. The difference is a couple of bytes at the beginning of the boot sector. Original TOS didn't set that up the way MSDOS needed. New TOSes (1.4 and greater) do. Other people's formatters, like DoubleClick, let you select this as an option. There is no difference at all in the data part of the disk, only a couple of bytes in the first sector which we ignore and they use. Sometimes you can format a disk on a PC and use it on an ST. You can certainly READ the disk on the ST. You can't WRITE it unless the disk was formatted with two FATs. Some newer MSDOSes think they're doing you a favor by writing just one FAT. If you have one of those, use the option to FORMAT which says, "Put two FATs on the disk." Aside from these details of formatting (which are not minor), the TOS and MSDOS filesystems are identical, files, subdirectories, and all. ============================================ Opinions expressed above do not necessarily -- Allan Pratt, Atari Corp. reflect those of Atari Corp. or anyone else. ...ames!atari!apratt ------------------------------ End of Info-Atari16 Digest ******************************
