I have yet to purchase the software, but I know I am going to be using .IMG files (of which I know little or nothing about), AND am going to NEED to print these .IMG in a Postscript DTP environment...hence Pagestream comes to mind. I have been holding off buying 1.82 due to the purported soon release of 2.x. I will have a TRUE PS printer shortly- the NEC Silent Writer 90. My question: Am I in for trouble in placing .IMG files into a Postscript format? Should I expect loss or degradation in the conversion? is there a conversion? and, what .IMG editing tools are out there? TOUCH_UP ? others? Are .IMG typically large? And if converted to PS.. can I assume that were I to go to a printhouse for greater than 300dpi, i will be able to get the higher resolution for the graphics images? your help is very much appreciated. thanks gunnar alexd@milton.u.washington.edu ------------------------------ Date: 6 Apr 91 23:38:19 GMT From: noao!ncar!elroy.jpl.nasa.gov!sdd.hp.com!caen!news.cs.indiana.edu!msi.umn.edu!no c.MR.NET!ns!ns!logajan@arizona.edu (John Logajan) Subject: .IMG/Pagestream/Postscript To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu alexd@milton.u.washington.edu (Alex Danilchik) writes: >Am I in for trouble in placing .IMG files into >a Postscript format? I was wondering what all was involved in this process. I know that you need the "Null Modem" cable, and that the 8-bit will need some sort of interface, probably the 850... after that, could you just use terminal software for each computer, and then "download" from the 8-bit to the ST?? Now... I have an Atari SX212 that has both the RS232 port for the ST and the port that the 8-bit uses. Would it be possible to just use the modem as a link between the two?? Could I do so without the Null Modem, and just use my RS232??? ALSO: I have heard that the ST can RUN about 90% of the 8-bit software if you have another hardware module... anyone else heard this?? I need to do GIF,PCX,TIFF <-> IMG conversion for a friend who will very soon have to receive/store/retrive/"reformat"/send pictures in all those formats. I'v choosen IMG format as a base since it seems to be most widespread and easiest to manage but if GIF proves to be much more space efficient then it might became the base. The key point is that the whole proces will have to be done authomatically. Just to make things worse ih has to be done while user (my friend) is on-line and needs certain picture in a certain format and there is nobody home to do it (except his ST, of course :-). So, there is no chance that any paint program could be used for conversion and I'm very short with time and information (yes I have GIF.DOC but have no time to reinvent the wheel, although I usually like to do that :-). <<<<<<<<<<<<--------<<>>-------->>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<---- Zarko Berberski ---->>>> <<<<---- EBERBERS@YUBGEF51.bitnet ---->>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<--------<<>>-------->>>>>>>>>>>> P.S.
