December 30, 1993 Announcing The Oracle System The Multi-line/Multi-Task GEM BBS SCHAUZMOLL Soft. is is about to release a new BBS system like nothing you have ever seen on the Atari platform. The Oracle System will revolutionize the way you communicate by modem. Forget everything you ever known about "BBSing" and enter the area of "GUI-Telecommunication". Oracle is like being on the GEM desktop, so you can use your mouse to go where you want to go, see what you want and get it without your fingers touching the keyboard. From the SysOp point of view Oracle is a totally new approach to running and maintaining a bulletin board system. There is no separate system editor or user editor programs since they are included in the main BBS program. This make Oracles menus react instantly to any changes made to the setup of your sigs, message bases, informations sections, etc.. It is possible to edit any menu, create message base or files section at will. For example, let's say that your Co-SysOp is chatting with you on-line and propose adding a new section on programming in GFA basic so he can upload his latest creation. What do you do??? You get out of the chat mode, you press the help key on your keyboard and the System Editor Menu pops up, you press the edit this menu button et voila! You can edit the current menu on line, save it and check it out immediately because the change are made right away. The system really works like you would go and search for a file on a big hard disk with many folders containing many files. In fact all the menus in Oracle are like folders on a hard disk. Folders can contain files or other folders, so an Oracle menu can contains others menus or different kind of files like messages, programs, texts files, doors, etc.... There is _NO_ limit to the number of sub menus that the system can handle. Every items in the Oracle system, from menus to files sections, are presented as icons in a window just like the desktop so anyone who has used his computer for a couple of weeks can easily travel trough Oracle. Also all files transfer (upload & download) are done in the background so you can go anywhere else on the BBS at the same time. Here are a couples of Oracles main features: - Can handle 3 phones lines using a MEGA STE - User friendly Graphic Interface with menus, windows and icons. - Unlimited number of menus, sub-menus, message bases & file section. - On board system and user editors. - 4 section (windows) can be opened at any time on the BBS. - Real message base text editor with GDOS fonts, load, save, copy, cut, and quote functions all using the mouse. - Attach a file to any message in any message bases. - Intelligent files section with archives file extracting. - Auto files validation option. *** - Possibility to upload and download files simultaneously. - Bilingual system capability (English and French) - Automated files uploading and new files downloading. - Automated message posting and recovering - Automated electronic mailing system. - Message bases networking (OR-NET, FIDO-NET, ATARI-NET) - Advance BBS networking and RTC capability - On-line user configurable and editable Data-Base system - Advertisement feature (display advertisement like TV commercials) - Download picture and display it directly in a window. - Files and messages clipboards - On-line help in french & English for every function on the terminal. - Library Dynamic file distribution - Multi-TOS and Falcon compatible The terminal also incorporate a ZIP file extractor and will extract downloaded files automatically after logoff. *** The background file transfer is really only possible on system with hard disk since floppy disks are too slow. These are some of the possibility that the Oracle system offer you. To accomplish all this, and much more, Oracle requires a special terminal program capable of displaying properly all the information. This means that every one who wishes to communicate with the Oracle system needs that special terminal... How can your user get their new terminal??? Easy! When a user calls Oracle for the first time the System recognize him as a new user and ask him if he wants to register and receive the special terminal needed so he can call back and explore the new system. If the "new" user agree he can download the terminal using x, y or Zmodem, uncompress the file and register at home, then call back to instantly gain access to your BBS! It is impossible to explain in every details the depth and power of of the Oracle System so check out for the terminal available by the end of January and call my BBS to see for yourself the power of Oracle System. *** The Oracle system will be available for the Atari ST computer on February 1st 1994. *** The complete system is selling for 199.95$ and include: - A complete 100 pages SysOp manual. - The Oracle Terminal Users manual in a printed to disk format. - The 7 days/week SysOp help-line so you can call to get help at any time. - Free System and terminal programs upgrades for a year. - Mini weather station For more information call the OasiSTe BBS at 1-418-623-3729 and leave a message to the SysOp (it's me!)
