ACE MIDI v1.01 Demo version ----------------------------- a New Beat production in 2002 made by Thomas Bergstr”m Beta testing Shiuming Lai Tim Conrardy 1. About this demo version ---------------------------- Changes from v1.0: - ACE had problems with some MIDI commands causing stuck notes and no sound at all from time to time. These commands are now filtered. - The LVL 1 switch in the LFO did not work properly. - 3 more banks included in the demo archive. Thanks to beta tester Tim Conrardy. This demo version is free to use. You may put the archive on your any site, magazine, bulletin board or what ever you feel like, as long as you do not change the contents of the archive, or the archive itself, in any way. All files must remain the same. Since this is a demo version of ACE MIDI, some functions have been removed: - Save BANK. - Save SET. - Save MULTI - Save PART - External Outputs (4 output mode for external effects). - 44.1, 48 and 50 KHz modes removed. - Only possible to use 1 Part (1 of 16). - Only possible to play two voices (2 of 16). The only save option left is "SAVE PATCH" which saves one single patch (sound). This means you can start making patches even before you get the full version of the program. 2. Register the program ------------------------- If you find ACE MIDI useful and would like to get all functions you have to register the program. The registration is really simple and you may be able to use the program the same day as you register (depending which payment method you choose). To make it as easy as possible for you to register, go to http://newbeat.atari.org where you will find all information regarding the registration and the possibility to apply for a registration online. 3 Requirements ---------------- To be able to run ACE MIDI you must have the following: - ATARI or Clab Falcon030. - Colour monitor, VGA or RGB. - ATARI compatible mouse. - MIDI keyboard or sequencer to control ACE is recommended, although you may test the sounds directly from the computer keyboard. - At least 4 MB ST-RAM. You can connect an external DAC to your Falcon to improve the sound quality as the Falcon's standard DAC's are quite noisy. Note that even if you have external DAC's with 4 or 8 outputs only 2 outputs will be used in this demo version. In the full version you can use 4 outputs to tap patches to different external effectboxes. 4 Playing around ------------------ Our hope is that not only MIDI enthusiasts and musicians will use and explore ACE MIDI. Even if it is a MIDI program you can still play around and create sounds with the computer keyboard. Turning the knobs, and play around with the many functions is, we believe, fun to anyone. There is no really easy way to learn how synthesisers work, neither is it easy to teach others how to do it. The best, and perhaps most fun, is to just start the program and turn the wheels and see (read hear) what happens. MyAtari magazine have been kind enough to write a tutorial about ACE, the tutorial was written by ACE MIDI beta tester Tim Conrardy and you may read it in the March 2002 issue. Visit MyAtari magazine at http://www.myatari.net. Don't forget to visit the New Beat site (http://newbeat.atari.org) from time to time as there will be MP3's with ACE tunes, sound files, and much more to explore. Tracker musicians should also keep their eyes open as ACE will soon come in a tracker version with exactly the same high quality synth engine. By using the same engine, you enable users from both worlds to share files that are common for both versions. So, even tracker musicians can use this demo version to start creating patches and sounds. 5 Contact --------- If you got any questions regarding ACE, don't hesitate to write: Thomas Bergstroem - tb@atari.org For questions concerning the New Beat site write to: Daniel Hedberg - dh@atari.org For latest news and updates, check http://newbeat.atari.org
